Okay, so I’ve been seeing this YSL JUNE BOX BAG around, right? It’s got that old-timey vibe, but it’s kinda new too. They’re calling it “vintage” and “modern” at the same time. Sounds a bit silly, doesn’t it? But I got curious. So, I thought, why not try to remake it myself? I mean, I’ve always liked getting my hands dirty with projects, you know?
First thing’s first, I started looking into this Yves Saint Laurent guy. Turns out, he was a pretty big deal back in the day, made all sorts of fancy clothes and bags. This JUNE BOX BAG, it’s like a little box, simple but classy. And that YSL logo, it’s everywhere on their stuff. Classic style, they say, never goes out of fashion. This is not just a bag but is also a good investment since it can hold its value well. They also make clothes and shoes, but today, I only focus on this bag.
I started by sketching out the design. It’s a box, so it wasn’t too hard to get the basic shape down. But getting the details right, that took some time. Next, I had to pick the material. Leather seemed like the obvious choice, but there are so many kinds! I ended up going with a nice, thick piece that felt like it could take a beating. I chose the leather with uniform texture since the fake one looks not good, with more visible grain pores and a less refined finish.
Cutting the leather was a bit nerve-wracking. I had to make sure all the pieces were the right size, or else the whole thing would be wonky. I used a sharp knife and a ruler, measured twice, cut once, just like my grandpa used to say. These small details can make sure high quality.
Then came the stitching. I’m no expert with a needle and thread, but I’ve done my fair share of sewing. It took a while, but I managed to sew all the pieces together. It’s not perfect, but it’s got character, you know? Like, it’s got that handmade touch that you can’t get from a machine. Maybe this is what people call freedom, I can decide what I want to do.
The last step was adding the YSL logo. I found a metal piece that looked pretty close to the original, and I attached it to the front of the bag. It’s not the real deal, but it gives it that YSL look, right?
