Classic Style Alert: Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL MANHATTAN BAG is Here

Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here… what’s it called? Yeah, the Remake Yves Saint Laurent YSL MANHATTAN BAG. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Like somethin’ them city folk would carry. But I seen pictures, and it ain’t so different from the bags we used to carry back in the day, just… shinier, I guess.

Now, this YSL fella, or whatever his name is… Yves Saint somethin’, they say he was a big deal in fashion. A “genius,” some folks called him. I don’t know nothin’ ’bout that. To me, a bag is a bag. You put your stuff in it, you carry it around. But I reckon this fella, he made his bags real special, real… stylish. They say he started his company way back in 1961. That’s a long time ago, even before I… well, never mind that.

This MANHATTAN BAG, they say it first came out in 2019. Not so long ago, see? And it’s supposed to be a “classic style.” Now, what that means, I ain’t exactly sure. I guess it means it looks like somethin’ from the old days, but still fancy enough for folks today. Like my grandma’s old quilt, but made of shiny leather instead of cotton scraps.

  • They got different sizes, too. Small ones, medium ones, big ones. Just like them baskets we used to take to the market. Only these here bags cost a whole lot more, I bet.
  • I heard tell they’re made of real good stuff, the best leather, the best… whatchamacallit, “construction.” That means they’re put together real good, so they don’t fall apart on ya. But you know what I think? You’re payin’ mostly for the name. YSL. It’s like buyin’ them fancy perfumes, just a little bit of smell in a pretty bottle, and you pay a whole lot for it.

Some folks say this Yves Saint Laurent, he was a “boy wonder” when he started. I don’t know about that. Seems to me, bein’ a wonder, boy or girl, means you can do somethin’ amazing, like makin’ a whole field of corn grow overnight. Makin’ a fancy bag, well, that’s somethin’ different, ain’t it?

They say fashion comes and goes, but style is “eternal.” That’s what I heard someone sayin’ on the TV the other day. Now, I don’t know much about “eternal,” but I do know what I like. And I like things that last, things that are strong and useful. Maybe these YSL bags are like that, maybe they ain’t. But for the kind of money they cost, they better be able to carry a whole lot more than just your lipstick and your… what do they call it… cell phone?

This fella, Yves Saint Laurent, he had a partner, too. They started this company together. And now, there’s another fella, Anthony somethin’, who’s in charge. He’s the “creative director,” they call him. I guess that means he decides what kind of bags and clothes they make. It’s all a bit much for me, to be honest. Too many names, too much fancy talk.

I saw some pictures of old Yves Saint Laurent clothes, from the 70s and 80s. They look kinda… strange to me. Big shoulders, bright colors. Not the kind of clothes we wore around here, that’s for sure. But I guess that’s what fashion is all about, makin’ things that are different, makin’ things that stand out. And this MANHATTAN BAG, I reckon it stands out, alright. With that shiny buckle and that smooth leather, you could spot it a mile away. It’s a statement piece, they say. Means it shouts, “Look at me! I got a fancy bag!”

You can buy these bags at all sorts of places, even online. They say you can get free shippin’ and easy returns. Well, that’s somethin’, I guess. If you spend a whole lot of money on a bag and then you don’t like it, you can always send it back. But I bet most folks who buy these bags, they keep ’em. They show ’em off. They carry ’em around like they’re somethin’ precious. And maybe they are, to some folks.

But me? I’ll stick with my old canvas tote bag. It ain’t fancy, it ain’t shiny, but it gets the job done. And that’s all that matters, right?
