Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another project! So, I’ve been eyeing the Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG for a while now. It’s such a classic piece, with that smooth box calfskin and the antique gold hardware. But the price tag? Oof, not so friendly to my wallet. That’s why I decided, “You know what? I’m gonna try to remake this myself!”
First things first, I needed to gather my materials. I found some really nice leather that was similar to the original. I mean the YSL one is probably some super fancy stuff, but this one feels pretty darn good, and it’s way more affordable. And the hardware? I hit up a few online stores and found some pieces that were a good match to that antique gold look. Not perfect, but hey, we’re going for a similar vibe here, not a perfect replica.
Getting Started
Once I had everything I needed, I started by carefully examining pictures of the bag online. There are tons of them out there! I sketched out the basic shape and dimensions, making sure to get the proportions right. The LE CARRé is all about those clean lines and that structured look, so getting the measurements accurate was super important.
Then, I got to work cutting the leather. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part. One wrong cut and you could end up with a wonky-looking bag. I took my time, double-checked all my measurements, and cut each piece slowly. I also made sure to cut out the lining pieces from a softer fabric. A luxurious bag needs a luxurious interior, right?
Putting It All Together
Next up was the assembly. I started by sewing the main body pieces together. I used a heavy-duty thread that matched the leather color, and I made sure to use a strong stitch. You don’t want your bag falling apart after a few uses! Then I attached the front flap, which is where that iconic YSL logo goes. I managed to find a similar-looking logo online. I glued and sewed to make sure it’s not going anywhere.
- Sewing the lining: This part was a bit tricky, but I managed to get it done. I basically created a separate bag out of the lining fabric and then inserted it into the leather shell.
- Adding the hardware: This was the fun part! I attached the strap rings, the buckle, and the other hardware pieces. Seeing the bag come together with all those details was so satisfying.
- Finishing touches: I went over all the edges with a leather sealant to give it a more polished look and protect it from wear and tear.
The Final Result
And there you have it! My very own homemade version of the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. It’s not an exact copy, of course, but it definitely captures the essence of the original. It’s got that same structured shape, that beautiful leather, and that touch of gold hardware. And the best part? I made it myself, which makes it even more special.
This project was definitely a challenge, but it was also a lot of fun. It’s amazing what you can create with a little bit of patience, some basic materials, and a whole lot of determination. If you’re thinking about trying something similar, I say go for it! It’s a great way to get a designer look without breaking the bank, and you’ll learn a ton of new skills along the way.
