Alright, so, I got this idea to try and remake a Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy, right? But I saw this watch online, and I was like, “Man, that’s a good-looking piece.” It’s got that old-timey, classic vibe, you know? They call it “Art Deco” or something. Anyway, I figured, why not give it a shot?

First, I spent days just staring at pictures of this watch. I mean, every angle, every little detail. I wanted to get a real feel for it. I noticed how the light hit it, the way the numbers looked, the whole shebang. It looked fancy, real fancy, and I started to understand why people dig this style so much, even though it’s not really my thing.

Next, I started sketching. Just rough drawings at first, trying to get the proportions right. Then, I moved on to more detailed sketches, focusing on the specific elements, like the hands and the crown. It was tough, I’m not gonna lie. This thing has a lot of intricate details that you don’t notice at first glance.

After that, I had to figure out the materials. Now, I’m not using real gold or anything, haha. I found some similar-looking metals and materials that would give it that same kind of shine. I wanted it to look like the real deal, even if it was just for show. I mean that’s what they said about this watch in those online stores, that it has that same shine.

Then came the actual building part. This was the hardest part, for sure. I started with the case, shaping it and polishing it until it looked just right. I had to remake a few parts because I wasn’t happy with how they turned out. It was a lot of trial and error. Some people online were talking about how this watch is an investment. An investment! Could you believe that?

  • Shaping the case: I messed this up a few times. Getting those curves right is tricky.
  • Making the hands: These are so tiny! I had to use tweezers and a magnifying glass.
  • Putting it all together: This was like doing a very delicate puzzle.

But you know what? I finally did it. I made my own version of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. It’s not perfect, of course, but I’m pretty proud of it. It was a real challenge, but I learned a lot along the way. I mean, they say this is the best watch, that they don’t make them like this anymore, and after this, I get it.

Now, I’m not saying I’m gonna start selling these or anything. It was just a fun project, something to keep me busy. It is just like one of those guys said in his review that got published a while back, “And who knows.”

Anyway, that’s my story. Hope you enjoyed it. Maybe it’ll inspire you to try something new, even if it seems a little out there. Just remember, it’s all about the process and what you learn along the way.
