So, I started looking into this whole Yves Saint Laurent thing, or YSL as the young people call it. I kept hearing about this JUNE BOX BAG and how it was a “remake” of some classic. Sounded interesting enough, so I figured I’d give it a try.
First, I did some digging around. Turns out, YSL used to be all about haute couture when it got started back in ’61. Fancy, right? Then they switched gears to making high-end stuff on a bigger scale. Also, I learned that YSL and Saint Laurent are the same thing. Apparently, the name changed to Saint Laurent Paris in 2012. Who knew?
Now, about this JUNE BOX BAG. From what I gathered, it’s a pretty big deal. I saw that it comes in different versions, like python and calfskin, which makes it some kind of collector’s item. Plus, they say it’s a “timeless design” from a brand known for good craftsmanship, so it might actually be worth something someday.
With all this in mind, I decided to remake one myself. I mean, I’m not exactly rolling in dough, and those bags are expensive! I’m no expert in making bags, but I’m pretty handy, so I thought, why not?
I gathered all the materials I could find. I used some old leather I had lying around, got some fabric for the lining, and found some metal pieces that looked like the ones on the real bag. I spent days cutting, sewing, and putting it all together. It wasn’t easy, and I definitely messed up a few times, but I kept at it.
- Choosing the Material: I found some old leather pieces in my storage and started by cleaning them up. I think it is not calfskin but just regular cowhide. But it is thick enough for a bag.
- Cutting the Pieces: This part was tricky. I made a rough pattern based on pictures of the JUNE BOX BAG I found. Then I start cutting the leather and the lining fabric.
- Sewing: I used my old sewing machine for this. It took a while, and I had to redo some parts because I’m not a pro at this.
- Adding the Details: I tried to find metal pieces that looked like the YSL logo and the other hardware on the bag. It wasn’t perfect, but I did my best.
- Finishing Touches: After all the sewing and assembling, I added some finishing touches to make it look as close to the real thing as possible.
After a lot of work, I finally finished my homemade YSL JUNE BOX BAG. It’s not perfect, of course. It doesn’t have that fancy “Cassandre” logo or the diamond quilting, and it’s definitely not made of python or calfskin. But you know what? It looks pretty darn good for a first try! And I learned a lot in the process. Plus, I didn’t have to spend a fortune on a real one.
And here’s a funny thing: I found out that you can return these YSL bags within 30 days if you buy them online, and they even give you a prepaid return label. I guess that’s good to know if you’re not happy with your purchase. But for me, I’m happy with my handmade version. It’s got character, and it’s a reminder that you don’t always need the real thing to enjoy something.
So, that’s my little adventure with the YSL JUNE BOX BAG. It was a fun project, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. Maybe I’ll try making another bag someday. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get good at it! But for now, I’m happy with my one-of-a-kind, not-so-fancy, but definitely special, JUNE BOX BAG.
My Final Thoughts
This whole experience taught me a few things. First, it’s always fun to try something new, even if you’re not an expert. Second, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have something nice. And third, sometimes the homemade version of something can be just as satisfying, if not more, than the real thing. After all, it’s got a story behind it, and that’s something you can’t buy.
